This is what was waiting for me if I left my car.
The Non-hike from Mowich Lake to Tolmie Peak Lookout
Shortly after entering Mount Rainier National Park I stopped at the "honor system" pay box. I put $15 in the envelope. Upon returning to my car I was buzzed by a few large flies. A couple of miles up the road I pulled the car over to take a picture of Tolmie Peak Lookout in the distance. This time I was attcked by maybe 10 flies. Upon reaching Mowich Lake I drove to the turn around before parking at the trail head. Once coming to rest the car was engulfed by horse flies. Not just a couple, maybe 30 or 40. They would fly into the windows making a thud and sometimes the antenna making it twang. They were looking for a way to get in. Several at a time would perch on the rear view mirrors and stare at me. It was a little unsettling. I waited in the car for about a thirty minutes before abandoning this hike.

I took this photo on the drive out of the park.
I could see the lookout in the distance from the car.
