Cape Alava Hike
On the road early. We stopped at the 101 Cafe in downtown Sequim then the Albertson's in Port Angeles for food and ice. The drive was long from there. We stayed on highway 1 past Sekiu. The parking lot was quite full. We doned our day packs and took the northern trail. We hiked the southern trail with the Randy and Ross several years ago. The trail was more up and down than the other. The rainforest is damp and muddy year round, so the park service has raised the trail onto cedar planks. The beach is disappointingly covered with seaweed. In places it was a foot thick and stinky. The camp site are nice and right up to the beach. We liked the sites around the north point. South of the trail about a mile up the beach are Indian Petroglyphs but they can't be reached during high tides. A good reason to come back. We walked north along the beach past the ranger cabin. The beach around the point had much less seaweed and better views. We sat and ate our lunch looking north.
